INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON

“ISLAM AND CURRENT ECONOMIC ISSUES”

 

        Council of Islamic Ideology organized an international conference on “Islam & Current Economic Issues” on 1st – 2nd June, 2007, at the Conference Hall of the Council. Sub-themes of the conference are as under:

-         Analysis of the CII Reports on Elimination of Riba.

-         Poverty Alleviation: Zakat – Bait ul Mall

-         Islamic Banking

-         Nature and Role of the Government in Islam.

       Recommendations of the conference were pronounced in the plenary session by Dr. Khalid Masud on:

1.                  Interest free financial instruments.

2.                  Islamic  Banking

3.                  Poverty & Zakat

4.                  Role of Government.

     Some of the questions that need consideration were pointed out:

1.      Why the present Zakat and Bait-ul-Mall are unable to mitigate poverty and ensure these rights.

2.      Coverage of Zakat: Coverage of Zakat reconsideration since the forms of wealth and their relative importance

      have been changed overtime.

3.      Change in the rate of Zakat.

4.      Is Tamlik a necessary part of Zakat.

5.      Payment of Zakat individually privately.

6.      Distribution of Zakat globally.
