ISLAMABAD, Aug 3 (APP): Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has launched the quarterly journal "Ijtehad" and Urdu translation of Egyptian Scholar's book "Freedom of Women in era of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)." Editor of the Journal, Khurshid Ahmed Nadeem in the launching ceremony held here presented an overview of Ijtehad as a technical term of Islamic law that describes the process of making a legal decision by independent interpretation of the legal sources, the Qur'an and the Sunnah. He expressed the hope that the journal would be provided to various educational institutions and libraries. Prof. Fateh Muhammed in his speech said that Ijtehad always played an important role in our society. "Due to Allama Iqbal's political Ijtehad, Pakistan came into being as Islamic identity is based on spiritual unity," he added. Khalid Saif giving an introduction of Abdul Haleem Shiqa's book "Freedom of Women in era of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)" said that translators of the book have made an effort to present the writings of the author in the same perspective. He said Islam is the only religion which gave a charter over women rights and also provided them due status with honor and equality. Dr. Tahir Mehmood discussing various topics of the book said that the book is a source of minimizing the gap between different schools of thought. Chairman, CII, Dr Muhammed Khalid Masood, lauding the efforts of authors in compiling such a valuable work said, CII always provided a forum to religious scholars for expressing their views in interpreting various Islamic subjects.
